Eastern Senior Golf Association

The Eastern Seniors Golf Association is an organization of gentlemen devoted to the advancement of the game of golf and the promotion of good fellowship.

During 2010 the ESGA will be celebrating its fiftieth Anniversary in the spirit of its founders in 1960.  The original members were a group of avid golfers from New York and neighboring states.  The motivating force were members from the Siwanoy Golf Club in Westchester led by our first President, Rupert H. Johnston.  He remained an active member until his death at the age of 89.  We are truly greatful to the founders and all those who have followed them for their vision of good golf, fellowship, and enjoyment.

From its modest beginnings, the membership has grown to about 350 members representing a diverse group of golfers primarily from the eastern United States.  One must be fifty-five (55) years of age or older to be eligible for membership, which is by invitation following sponsorship by at least two current members in good standing.

The Association currently schedules four to five events each year beginning with a One-Day Tournament in Florida.  This is followed by the Two-Day Winter Team Championship held in the Palm Beach area.  Spouses and guests are invited to participate.  The golf activity moves to the Metro NY area during the Spring, Summer, and Fall.  We take pride holding one-day events at top quality courses with the Annual Championship being featured.

The Eastern Seniors continues to challenge the Bermuda Seniors Golfer's Society in Bermuda in the odd year.  Matches are held at Mid-Ocean, St. Georges, Port Royale, and Riddlell's Bay Clubs.  Our team has up to 30 members, and wives are included with a variety of social activities.  During 2009 we were victorious winning the Rathborne Trophy besting the Bermudians.

All tournaments are open to members on a first served basis.  At many, we encourage members to bring guests who are 55 years or older and have an active USGA index at a private club.  WHile our members have a wide range of handicaps, each event is flighted to accommodate various skill levels.  Of course, no golfing event would be complete without a full social program of receptions, lunches, and award banquets to complement the golf -- this we do in the spirit of fellowship and comaraderie.
